Dahlonega - Consolidated Gold Mine

Great place to take you family in the summer!  The mine is nice and cool. My two boys really enjoyed the tour. My wife, who doesn't like closed spaces, was comfortable while on tour. Lots of space to move around.

Start planning your visit to the largest hard rock gold mine east of the Mississippi and it’s located right here in Dahlonega, Georgia! Founded in 1896, the gold mine focused on removing gold trapped in quartz veins throughout the property.  Head 200 feet underground and over 100 years back in time to experience life as a turn of the century gold miner.  Your tour guide will demonstrate how miners blasted quartz veins to uncover huge deposits of gold.  After your underground tour, our miners will teach you how to pan for gold and you will have the chance to strike it rich.  We offer gold panning, gem mining, gem cutting and more year round and rain or shine.  So, if you are looking for things to do in Dahlonega, come out to Consolidated Gold Mines, North Georgia’s only underground gold mine tour. - https://consolidatedgoldmine.com/

The Consolidated Gold Mines and gold processing mill, built in the early 1900's, was the largest gold mining operation east of the Mississippi River. Most of the mill buildings are gone but the tunnels deep below in gold bearing rock still remain. Travel 200 feet underground and 100 years back in time to explore those same tunnels with the Underground Adventure package, where you and your family will enjoy a 40 minute underground adventure of the mine with one of our friendly and knowledgeable staff members. As you descend the stairs, you will hear tales of miner’s struggles to uncover gold deep within large Quartz veins. Your tour guide welcomes interaction from the group as you experience life as a miner at the turn of the century. After your tour, you will receive gold panning instructions from some of the best panners in the world, having won numerous awards in the field. Then you will get a chance to try if for yourself and hopefully you’ll strike it rich!
The Mines remain at a comfortable 60 degrees year round. Tours are conducted daily. Your tour guides are actual miners who are open to questions during your tour of underground mine tunnels. This is a walking tour - guests enter the mine via three flights of stairs and two ramps. Tennis shoes are recommended and closed toed shoes are a must! Flip Flops are not permitted for the Underground Adventure. Strollers are not permitted in the mine. - http://dahlonega.org/see-do/discover-gold

Anyone who knows me, knows I'm I a big fan of Extron technology. I have two full-time staff members who oversee 90 academic spaces (classrooms, auditoriums, and conference rooms).  We are able to do this because of Extron's robust hardware and easy programming interface.
When we purchase technology to rehab a building, we always purchase two or three spare pieces of technology. This way if we should have an issue, we can swap out the tech and send back to Extron or repair. The great thing is, when the item is outside of the warranty period, it only costs around $250 to have them refurb the unit.  This is pennies on the dollar for what we paid for the technology.  This allows my institution to push technology infrastructure beyond the five-year mark. We just replace data projectors.

If you ever have any questions about Extron technology for the classroom, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.  I'm happy to share my 15 …
